Dr. Jamila T. Davis
Dr. Jamila T. Davis is a renowned motivational speaker, dedicated community activist, accomplished author, and esteemed academic professional. With a passion for empowering individuals of all ages, she has become a beacon of hope and resilience, despite facing a tragic turn of events after achieving self-made, multi-millionaire status at the young age of 25. In 2008, Dr. Davis was sentenced to 12 1/2 years for bank fraud, an experience that became a catalyst for her transformative journey of inner healing and restoration. From behind bars, she diligently documented her findings and developed a groundbreaking self-help curriculum, “The Voices of Consequences Enrichment Series,” which is specifically tailored to empower incarcerated women. This curriculum aims to facilitate healing, help individuals recognize their untapped potential, and reignite their dreams. In January of 2023 this work was adopted by the Bureau of Prisons as an approved program for time credit through the First Step Act. During her time in prison, Dr. Davis also pursued higher education and earned numerous college degrees. Most notably, she recently obtained her Doctor of Philosophy degree from Newburgh Seminary, focusing her research on life coaching as a powerful tool to dismantle the trauma-to-prison pipeline. In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Davis holds the positions of Community Practitioner in Residence at Seton Hall University and Research Fellow at the Yale School of Public Health, where she continues to contribute to the field of social and public health research. Since completing her prison sentence in June 2017, Dr. Jamila T. Davis has wasted no time in making a profound impact. She has been featured on various television shows and has garnered significant media attention, including appearances on CBS's Pink Collar Crimes, BET's American Gangster, Forbes, and Black Enterprise, among others. Currently, Dr. Davis serves as the esteemed founder of the VIP School Empowerment Coalition, where she has successfully guided thousands of students in acquiring valuable trade and entrepreneurial skills, equipping them for success in the workforce. Committed to paying it forward, Dr. Davis lives by the motto: “No matter how far you've fallen in life, it's never too late to recapture your dreams!” Through her inspirational message, literary contributions, academic positions, and unwavering activism, she remains steadfast in her mission to effect positive change and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
"I completed the Teen Entrepreneurship program back in 2019 and this program truly changed my life. With the funds I was awarded, I was able to set up my catering business Kayonce's Kitchen. Dr. Davis helped me to register my business as a vendor with the City of New York and I've been blessed to receive several contracts that have helped me to support my family. The program showed me that success was possible and opened up so many opportunities for me and my business. I am forever grateful!"
